20 years after their show was cancelled, the Galaxy Quest crew are making a living signing autographs and appearing at Sci-Fi conventions. None of them really get on; Dr. Lazarus (Rickman) hates having to repeat the same lines over and over to every fan, Gwen (Weaver) wishes she did more in the show than just repeat orders to the computer and Jason Nesmith (Allen) thinks he is actually the 'Commander' by bossing everyone around and taking all the fame. When some devout fans ask Nesmith to save them, he thinks it is just another promotion job, until he is transported to the other side of the galaxy to rescue the Thermian race from destruction.
For anyone who loves Star Trek and anyone who has ever laughed at someone for liking it, this is a must see movie. It is so beautifully written, with the main down and out actors conveying what you would think Shatner and Nimoy to be like in real life. Combined with excellent SFX, great jokes and pure escapism, this is a gem of a movie.
