After throwing himself back into singledom in a really big way, Matt (Hartnett) feels that no matter how many women the sleeps with he can forget the woman who broke his heart, Nicole. In a moment of clarity he comes up with a plan that should purge these feelings forever, give up sex for lent. No sex, no kissing, no touching, no physical contact with a woman at all and no self-gratification. After a good start, things change dramatically when two things happen. Firstly his best friend and room mate Ryan (Costanzo) tells all his friends and work colleges about his vow and they are now running a website taking bets on how long he will last and secondly he has just met a beautiful women that he can't stop thinking about, Erica (Sossamon). Will his commitment to his vow be able

Going without sex for forty days might be inconceivable to some but when you also throw no self-relief into the pot, you have a good concept for a romantic comedy and this one shoots more times than it misfires.

Josh Hartnett is good in a the role of Matt, as he puts across a good understanding of what it would be like for anyone to try and dull their sexual impulses. Shannyn Sossamon is as beautiful as ever and follows her debut in A Knight's Tale with another head strong and believable female role. The supporting cast is also good with Paulo Costanzo playing the best friend with great enjoyment.

While the concept is high, the laughs are not as thick and fast as you'd have hoped for. There are some laugh-out-load moments, but these are few and far between with the rest of the movie still managing to raise a smile here and there however. For every red-blooded male, the amount of attractive women in the movie is overwhelming and the running through San Francisco scene near the end of the movie, you'll know the one I mean when you see, is a testosterone cavalcade. For the women in the audience there is plenty of fun to be had at the men's expense.

Overall there is enough in this film to keep both of the sexes happy, making it a good date movie just don't expect to agree on everything during the trip home.
